How to be a Long-term Winner in the Stock Market
It takes less time than running a marathon per month to be a long-term winner in the stock market
Winning long-term in the stock market requires a fundamental different approach and mindset than placing short-term bets or acting on ad-hoc information. There are two basic alternative strategies to be a successful long-term investor in the stock market. Choose the one that suits you best.
A long-term winning stock market investing approach is:
- Repeatable
- Sustainable
- Consistent
- Objective
Such an approach is the opposite of betting and based on substance.
You cannot out-bet the market. You cannot be smarter than the market. But you can act with more objectivity and less emotion than the market.
Value and Trend
There are two distinct different stock market investing strategies that can make you a long-term winner. Both are good. But both are suitable for different type of investors.
1) Value investing
2) Trend following investing
Value investing is for those who have the time and skills to analyze the strategy, management and financial performance of many great potential companies.
Trend following investing is for those who have no time, interest or specific skills to analyze companies and stocks in detail.
Win With What Suits You
If you are interested in value investing, I would like to warn you against any type of stock picking service where someone in return for your money tells you what the companies are that have great growth potential. See here a Wikipedia article on Penny Stocks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_stock
When value investing is your passion, start reading about it on the Motley Fool and buy Benjamin Graham’s “The Intelligent Investor”.
